After graduating in '97, I was unable to find a math teaching position that first year and took a job as an elementary special education aide - interesting. The following year I was able to secure a high school math position and over the last 11 years have taught in 3 different school districts. I have taught a wide range of courses, from Math 7 to Calculus. Last spring I earned my Master's Degree in Education, which, along with some graduate math classes, enable me to teach a dual credit course in Statistics at the high school. I also teach a night class at Northeast Iowa Community College two nights a week.

I am originally from Winona, MN, and arrived at Luther College as an undergraduate in the Fall of 1998. I graduated from Luther in Spring 2002 with a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics and enrolled in graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the department of Medical Physics in the Fall of 2002. During graduate school I was briefly a teaching assistant, was a research assistant for three different professors, did research for several months in Heidelberg, Germany, completely switched dissertation topics after three years in the program, got married, and did a internship at a small clinic in Madison, WI. After obtaining my Ph.D. in Medical Physics in the Fall of 2007, I became a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, which is where I am now. As a medical physicist at a university hospital I am involved in the therapeutic delivery of radiation to cancer patients on a daily basis as part of a clinical team, researching new methods for improving radiation delivery, and training undergraduate students, graduate students, medical students, medical residents, and medical physics residents.
